Back in Nova Scotia, Joan’s mother, Effie MacLellan, learned a generations-old recipe for oatcakes that she carried to her new home in Boston. On baking days, Effie would send her children out with stacks of warm biscuits, wrapped and ready to share with the neighborhood. Joan and her longtime friend, Irene, knew these biscuits were exceptional and wanted to pass Effie’s tradition to the next generation.
